Darrens Note

Winter’s chill is fading. The grass is beginning to turn green. Soon we’ll see the trees spring forth with new foliage. Flowers will bud and blossom and our landscape will come alive with the fresh new colors of spring. Then pollen will appear. Our allergies will start and we will constantly wash that pale yellow film off our cars. One negative comment ruins this whole mental picture; doesn’t it? Suddenly, we forget about the new life and the vibrant colors of spring and all our minds can focus on is how we’ll have to spend countless dollars at the doctor and pharmacy to try and keep our sinuses under control. We do things like this all the time, don’t we? We recognize the blessings that God has so graciously poured out upon us, but little insignificant things creep in and take our focus off of what God has been doing in our lives. I am reminded of David’s plea to God in Psalm 51 when he says, “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You” (Psalm 51:12-13) . May we not be distracted by the things of this world to the point that we forget the great things God is doing at Jefferson Street. May Christ renew our joy for the salvation He has so graciously given us, and may we seek to see our church grow by the renewing of lives by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
